Bill Siddons (1948) is most known for his time as the manager of The Doors from 1968 and 1972. He handled The Doors’ surviving three members for two albums after the death of lead vocalist Jim Morrison. Pamela Courson, who was in Paris when Morrison died, contacted him as the only person in the United States. He and Pamela planned the funeral and burial, but owing to the closed casket and his reluctance to witnessing his buddy die, he never saw Jim’s corpse. “We buried Jim properly,” Siddons recalls, “and that was probably my biggest achievement: making sure we kept it secret until everything was done properly.” We had nothing to conceal, but we already knew what was going to happen since Jimi and Janis had gone through it.” Siddons started his employment with the Doors as a young roadie while attending Cal State Long Beach, then was invited to be the band’s manager six months later. He and the band split up five years later when the band disbanded two albums after Jim’s death and reformed as “the Butts Band,” and he proposed switching to a normal 15% commission structure. They re-united around the publication and promotion of Jim Morrison’s poetry collection An American Prayer, which re-established The Doors’ historical importance and quadrupled their earnings.
